The Goat Project this year will be a combination of the Pygmy Goat Project and the Meat Goat Project. Pygmy goats may be shown by primary members (ages 5–8) as well as youth members (ages 9 and older). Meat goats may only be shown by youth who are 9 years of age or older as of January 1, 2027.
Members will focus on goat knowledge, animal selection, general care, health management, and showmanship. Through raising and working with goats, youth develop responsibility, confidence, patience, and a strong work ethic. The project provides hands-on agricultural education while teaching valuable skills in animal husbandry, record keeping, decision-making, communication, and leadership. Participants gain a deeper understanding of livestock production and build friendships and life skills that extend far beyond the show ring.
